As I have mentioned before the days of 3 games in 3 nights seem so long ago.. I don't know how Zac plays 3 in a day!! Last Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday we played and unfortunately, the 3rd game was our first loss of the season.
On Tuesday we played Furuset, who have had some trouble this year and we found ourselves up 3-0 really quick. The first period ended with shots 15 -9 I think for us, but we were in complete control. Furuset is a team that is in Oslo and they do not have much of a following, so they have only one player from outside Norway. The Norweigans are very good, however, most teams carry 5-6 Swedish players who tend to be a step up from the average home grown player. The limit is 7 in the league, and no one has more than 3 from outside Scandanavia, a gentelmens agreement between teams. The next two periods we were in cruise control and carried a 4-0 lead into the final 10 minutes, they ended up scoring with 6 minutes left and 30 seconds left. That is a little frustrating for the stats, but a win is a win.
Thursday we played Lillehammer at home, they beat us in a shoot-out our second game of the season in their arena. Seeing as they were the only team to take the extra point from us we played with a purpose and buried them 8-2. The game was ours from the start althouth they did manage to keep it 2-1 at the end of the 1st. We scored on our chances and played tight all over the ice. They scored on a break-a-way with a few minutes left to make it 8-2 final. I felt I played average in those two games, to be honest the team played well and I only needed to be average.
Travel in this league is very reasonable. Our lone long trip is to Stavanger, the far west coast. We have to take a ferry across a Fjord about 30 minuets from Sarpsborg. If you are unsure what a Fjord is.... then Google it. I do know, your boat needs to be 'Built Fjord tough to go across it' (insert laugh)
The pictures are from the way there and from the restuarant at our hotel.
As for the game. Simply put, they wanted it more than us. They played hard and scored on 3 plowerplays in the first two periods. While we were down 3-1 early in the third, a former teammate of mine in Worcester, Brendan Brooks got a break-a-way and first the first time in his life, he shot blocker side instead of glove and it worked. We made it 4-2 late but this game belonged to the Oilers. The 10 hour ride home was even less fun after a loss. But 12 games in, we are not too upset with a 10-1-1 record. Personally I felt good on the ice in this game, felt like I made some good saves and controlled rebounds well. I guess I just didn't have the extra something to win the game. Next we play Comet... Hopefully the extra something is back! ha ha
