Stavenger Oilers at Sparta

Tonight we played Stavenger, a team with a big budget, they are from the oil rich region of Norway. It is a 8 hour bus ride there for us, thankfully we only go twice, they fly down here with all of their oil money...

The intensity was turned up a bit for this game. We had lost our 1st and 2nd line centers in the last week, a broken foot and arm respectively, so our coach announced that they had signed a player from Sweden to a 4 week contract with an option if both sides are happy. He won't play until Thursday but you could tell some of our forwards were playing for their jobs, if not for now, but for sure down the road. The crowd was loud in our rink tonight, almost annoying at times, I couldn't hear a few of the whistles! We went down 1-0 quick on a break-a-way goal (high blocker), but we tied it up less than a minute later. We were able to get another one before the 1st was over, both of our goals from defensemen on shots from the top of the circle.

They scored quick on the powerplay in the second (scramble in front goal) so the game was tied 2-2. We responded with 2 quick goals later in the period again from the same two d-men and they switched goalies. The 2nd ended 4-2.

The third they came out hard and we took some penalties so we spent most of it in our end. However we were able to find a way to keep them off the board long enough to score an empty netter with 50 seconds left.

Overall it was a good win for us, I felt a little sloppy in the first two periods but the third I woke up a bit and played better. I found a site that has our box scores and stats.
