4 More Down...9 To Go

Hello! On this Monday January 25th, we have found ourselves right in the mix for a chance to win the league.
This past week we had to play at home against Lillehammer before a home and home series with Valerenga, finally we played Mangelrud Star for the last time on Saturday. These games were pivotal for us...we needed to make a move if we had a chance to win the league.
After a long trip back from Stavanger last week we had a big home game on Saturday against Lillehammer, we came out extremely flat and they were flying. In there first two chances they beat me but the score remained 0-0. The 'hockey gods' were smiling on me and the first one just got caught between my pads and the second one dribbled wide. Phewww After that I was able to make some good saves. The period ended 0-0 but we trailed on the shot clock 12-5. In the second period we began to liven up and we were able to get on the board on a 5-3 power play. They answered back on a break-a-way (he turned me inside out..) We were given another 5-3 and again we converted. Our team scoring 2, 5 on 3 goals in one game is unheard of..I think our coach could have gone home satisfied after the second period with 2 goals on the power play. Early in the 3rd we picked up another goal and that would be enough for the win. They got one back on a 6 on 4 with 43 seconds left but that made way for Bryan Lundbohm (our new American) finally got on the board with an empty netter in the final seconds. I got player of the game and this time dinner for 2 and a duffle bag....
The next two games were by far the biggest two we have had this season. Home and home with Valerenga, they entered the series with a 10 point lead on us. The first game was at the Sparta Amfi and we were at our best. They scored early, then we tied it up. Then we scored another goal at the end of the first. In our locker room between periods you could feel the confidence spreading. We were going to win this game. We took control and by the mid way point in 3rd we found ourselves up 5-2. As the game died down, both teams scored on the power play and we won 6-3. Our fans were happy and relieved, so was our team. Then we found out that two of our best players, Eloffson and Malmstrom were going to be out for the next few games with groin injuries.
Going into the next game, guys who have not played very much we going to have to step up and prove that they could contribute in the absence of a couple of our stars. They did, we kept in the game and with 5 minutes left we were up 1-0...then a bad series of events we were down 2-1. A missed high stick call, led to a penalty, led to to the tying goal which led to us being on our heels and.... boom we were down 2-1. In the last minute we hit the post, missed and empty net and their goalie made a couple great saves. He covered the puck and face-off was to his left with 4 seconds left....I will save you the drama, we won the draw and, our captain, Jonas Anderson tied the game. The clock read 19:58. Unfortunately they found the extra point with 15 second left in o.t..(I won coffee for a year and a car wash for player of the game..and WOW did I need the car wash):):) We picked up 2 points in the standings on them..not a bad week.
Finally we played Mangelrud, they are in 7th place. We took care of business, a fairly simple 6-1 win at home..We have played 1 more game than Valerenga and we are 2 points behind them.
